Trash and Recycling Program Updates

TRASH COLLECTION IN BROOKLYN HEIGHTS 
Recycling and trash collection is handled by Kimble Companies, Inc.

Residents are to have their trash and recycling on the curb by 7:00 am on Friday morning. Please Note: Waste containers and trash can be put out AFTER 3:00 p.m. the day prior to trash collection. Waste containers cannot be left out past 9:00 a.m. the day after trash collection. Tree, brush trimmings and carpet must be tied not exceeding 4’ in length or 50 pounds per bundle.

Bulk waste, such as stoves, hot water tanks (water removed), washers, dryers, furniture, chairs and carpet (4 feet in length) is also collected on regular trash collection days.

MATTRESS DISPOSAL INFORMATION: Due to the possibility of bed bugs, mattresses and box springs must be placed in mattress bags for disposal. If not bagged, the mattress will not be picked up by either Kimble or the Brooklyn Heights Service Department.

CURBSIDE RECYCLING IN BROOKLYN HEIGHTS 
Kimble Co. provides weekly curbside recycling for village residents. Combine cans, cartons, glass, paper and boxes plus plastic bottles and jugs loose (unbagged) in the provided green 65-gallon cart. Large cardboard boxes should be placed next to the bin. KIMBLE’S customer service number is (800) 201‐0005 if you need to contact them. Combine these items in your curbside recycling: 

CANS: Includes all metal food and beverage cans such as pop, beer, soup, vegetable, and tuna. Cans should be emptied, rinsed, and then recycled. 
 
CARTONS: Includes milk, juice, soup and broth plus wine cartons. Cartons should be emptied and rinsed. Replace the cap and place in your curbside recycling.
  
GLASS: Includes glass food and beverage bottles and jars. Empty, rinse and replace the lid before recycling. You do not need to remove the label.  

PAPER & BOXES: All paper and boxes can be recycled, including newspapers, magazines, junk mail, boxes, greeting cards, cereal boxes, cardboard, phone books and clean pizza boxes. Flatten cardboard items, like cereal boxes, to save space.  

PLASTIC BOTTLES: Any plastic bottle, jar, jug or tub can be placed in your curbside recycling. Recycle plastic food and beverage bottles, cosmetics and personal products, and laundry detergent and bleach bottles. Containers should be emptied and rinsed. Replace the cap and put in your curbside recycling.   Not all plastics with the 1-7 symbol are recyclable. OTHER RECYCLING IN BROOKLYN HEIGHTS Computer Recycling Computers and components may be dropped off at the Service Garage Monday thru Friday from 7 am to 3 pm.
We can give you a receipt but we do not put a value on the equipment. Acceptable home computer equipment includes CPU’s, monitors, keyboards, mice, printers, terminals, modems, cables, software and ink printer cartridges. The computer equipment is delivered to non-profit RET3 Job Corp. They are then purged and used for parts to make computers for schools, learning centers, church groups and non-profit organizations. The donation is TAX DEDUCTIBLE. 

IMPORTANT CHANGES TO HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE PROGRAM
Please be advised of the following changes to the Household Hazardous Waste Program that will be effective June 2, 2017.  We are implementing these changes to reduce program costs for items where alternative disposal options exist.

Fluorescent Bulb
Recycling Fluorescent tube bulbs and compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) are no longer be accepted by the service department. Residents can recycle CFL bulbs (small, twisty bulbs) for free at any Home Depot or Lowe's store. Other types of bulbs, fluorescent tubes, can be recycled at any Batteries+Bulbs retail location.
