Welcome from the Chief
On behalf of the men and women of the Brooklyn Heights Police Department, I am pleased to welcome you to our web page. The department is staffed by fourteen full time officers, five part time officers and one administrative assistant. It is our honor to serve the residents and business community of Brooklyn Heights.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Brooklyn Heights Police Department is to safeguard the lives and property of the community we serve, to reduce the incidence and fear of crime, to assist in resolving problems among citizens and to enhance public safety and quality of life through the delivery of fair and impartial police services.
The Cuyahoga County SRAD/OVI Reduction Task Force, in partnership with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, will be conducting highly visible seat belt enforcement throughout the county during the national Click It or Ticket campaign. There will be no exceptions. If motorists are stopped and not wearing a seat belt, they will receive a ticket! Buckle up and avoid getting a ticket. |

Parking Regulations
452.13 - Overnight Parking Prohibited
No person shall park or cause to be parked, any motor vehicle on any street in the Village from 3:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.
452.17 - Snow Emergencies
Whenever, during any period of twenty-four hours or less, snow falls in the Village to a depth of two inches or more, an emergency is hereby declared to exist. During the period of such emergency, no person shall park, cause to be parked, permit to be parked, permit to remain parked, abandon or leave unattended any vehicle of any kind upon any street or highway within the Village, provided, however, that vehicles may be parked for a period of not longer than five minutes for actual loading or unloading of property, if such loading and unloading do not otherwise violate another ordinance of the Village.
Minor’s Curfew
Section 648.11 of Brooklyn Heights Code states that no minor under the below indicated years of age shall be present in or upon any public places that is not the minor’s place of residence, or other unsupervised places within the municipality between the hours indicated below:
- 12 years of age and under- 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. of the following day
- 13 & 14 years of age- 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. of the following day
- 15 & 16 years of age- 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. of the following day
- 17 years of age- 12:00 midnight to 6:00 a.m. of the following day
It is a separate violation for a parent, guardian or other adult person having care and custody of a minor to permit a curfew violation.
Daytime Curfew- If a minor is suspended or expelled from school, it is unlawful for them to be out and about during the hours when school is in session.
Free Gun Lock Program
Responsible gun ownership includes keeping guns out of the hands of children. The Brooklyn Heights Police Department offers free gun locks to any resident that requests them. Gun locks can be obtained by stopping at the police department.
Southwest Enforcement Bureau (SEB)
The Brooklyn Heights Police Department participates in the Southwest Enforcement Bureau (SEB). SEB is a regional organization made up of eighteen cities that have collaborated for the purpose of SWAT, Bomb Squad and Crisis Negotiations. Officers are on call 24 hours a day to respond to crisis situations.
Visitation Hours
Visiting hours for prisoners at the jail are 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. every day. Prisoners are limited to one fifteen minute visit per day.
Animal Control
The Village of Brooklyn Heights contracts with an animal control company. If you have a problem with stray or nuisance animals, call the police department at 216-741-2700 and an officer will determine if the animal control officer should be called.
Nuisance trapping is only done with the approval of the chief of police. If you think you need nuisance trapping, call 216-741-1327 during business hours.
Internet Sales Safe Zone
The Brooklyn Heights Police Department has created a safety zone where people buying and selling items on the internet can safely meet. If you are arranging to meet a stranger to buy or sell an item, make the meet-up spot in the rear parking lot of the Brooklyn Heights Police Station. The area is video monitored 24 hours a day and officers are always in the area. Look for the green sign.
